Q: How do I join?
A: You can join our site by registering here on the forums and filling out the appropriate application (shopkeeper, adult, professor, or student). Please do not register with a prefect/head student form. If you wish to be a prefect or head student your student application must be accepted before you can apply for either of these positions.
Q: Can I play a cannon character?
A: Nope - this is an orginal character only website. Also, when choosing a made-up character's name, please don't use things such as Jessica Potter or Jake Snape: You are not allowed to be the long lost relative/ child of one of the book characters, so forget it!
Q: Can I change my sign up name or e-mail?
A: You can change your name only if you wish to go by a different nickname. There will be no changing from Allison Prencer to Allisa Markay - it is just too confusing. Also, if you are getting married, or if you are promoted to Professor, you may change your display name. If you are going to change your e-mail address you must: change it in your forum settings and notify each and every teacher of every class you belong and let them know about the e-mail change.
Q: Why do I get logged off automatically?
A: It's mandatory that this happens, but you can prevent it. Under your password, there should be a drop down box with different amount of times that you can stay logged in. If you want to stay in forever, select the forever option.
Q: How do I prevent my username from appearing in the online user listings?
A: Login > Profile > Modify Profile > Then scroll down to "Account Preferences" > Find the "Stay Invisible" drop down box and select "Yes". Now no one can see that you're online except for the Administrator.
Q: Can I have more than one character?
A: Yes! You, in theory, may have as many characters as you like. However, keep this in mind: You need to be able to roleplay with all your characters equaly. If you can do that with 5 characters fine; if you can only manage 2, that's fine as well. Know your own limits.
Q: I don't like the house I was put in! Can I change?
A: On this forum we expect maturity, so we expect you to take what you're given. If it truly upsets you, that it is simply not right for your character, then PM the administrator with a 5-paragraph (8 sentences each) description of why. That means you have to supply us with at least 40 sentences. I do not want reasons such as, "But he's a punk!" or "I don't want to be a brainiac Ravenclaw!".
Q: I know I chose this house, but now I want to change:
A: Sorry, but there are no instances when a person can change houses half way through their education at Hogwarts. Therefore, it will not be allowed on this forum.
Q: I forgot the password to my common room. Who do I contact?
A: Do not contact your head of house. PM Professor William Gaisford - his username is kyle
Q: Can I be in any organization that I want?
A: Yes you can. However, you may not constantly switch organizations. We understand that your character might change his alliance once, or maybe even twice, but please don't be constantly changing from good to evil and such.
Note: Changing from neutral to anything else, and from anything else to back is perfectly acceptable.
Q: When does term begin?
A: Term will run from the first of August to the first of December. Some classes may run a few days after term, but that's just to wrap up the final exams and such. All final exam grades and house points for the term will be entered by Friday, December 15, 2006. The house cup winner will be announced on Saturday, December 16, 2006.
Q: I'm not sure whether my avatar/signature is sexually explicit, what do I do?
A: Make a post in the Help & Suggestions board about it. As long as their is no nudity or detailed words, it should be fine. Two people kissing is definitely OK!
Q: How can I earn house points?
A: There are a variety of ways that you can earn house points. Attending class usually earns you five or so house points, which will rack up at the end of the term. In addition, you can do your homework, compete in competitions (like the Signature of the Week), write books for our library, etc. Mainly, keep an eye peeled for all of the opportunities out there.
Q: How do I become a prefect or head student?
A: You can apply for either of these positions by looking in the applications section under students. Please make sure that you are ready for the commitment before applying.
Q: What do prefects and head students do?
A: Besides the benefit of being allowed to wander around the school at later hours than the rest of the student body, prefects are allowed to give house points for good behavior and positive attitudes, as well as take away points for rule-breaking and misbehavior. Prefects should always be respected at all times and never treated rudely. It would be unwise to do so anyway, what with their power to take points. In addition, prefects assist with the daily problems that arrise. They swarm the questions forum in order to help you with your quandaries. Mainly, their job is to be helpful.
(Oh, and they get a spiffy bathroom as well!)
Q: Do I have to take classes?
A: Our class system here is not very demanding. In essence, you do not have to attend each lesson. However, if you are not going to roleplay within the lesson it is a good idea you look over the material. This is significant, because at the end of the term each professor will furnish and administer a final exam over the entire term. You will HAVE to complete this final exam in order to progress to the next year.
Q: What final exams do I have to complete?
A: If you are a first or second year, you have to complete the six core classes' exams. If you are a third, fourth, or fifth year, you have to complete the six core classes' exams, plus an additional optional course's exam. If you are a sixth or seventh year, you must be enrolled in at least two classes, that contribute to your career preparation. In addition, first years have to attend one flying lesson, which will count as their final exam.
Q: What are the core and optional classes?
A: Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and History of Magic are the core classes. Astronomy, Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, Ancient Runes, Muggle Studies, and Arithmancy are optional classes.
Q: I want to be a member of the Quidditch team. What do I do?
A: In order to be on the Quidditch team, you need to consult your head of house. They should have posted a welcome post in your common with information about Quidditch on it. You need to do everything they tell you to become a member of the team. Some teams will even still be recruiting into the term, incase backups or replacements are needed.
Q: Another member of the site is breaking the rules (blatantly). I don't want to be a tattle-tale. What should I do?
A: Most offenses will be caught by us, but if you see something that has gone on for a long time, or know that another member of this site is 'bullying' someone, there's a link at the bottom of each thread that says 'Report to Admin'. It will send my a PM with the offender's username and the thread URL so that I can stop whatever's happening. Don't worry - I won't name names if you don't want me to.
